Kingwood is a classic furniture wood, almost exclusively used for inlays on very fine furniture. It was the most expensive wood generally used for making furniture in the 17th century, when it was known as the wood of princes. It is purple-brown with many fine darker stripes and occasional jagged swirls. Sometimes it contains pale streaks of a color similar to sapwood.
